Acceptance into Trierenberg Super Circuit 2019

Renee Sterling, a member of the Phillip Island Camera Club and Melbourne Camera Club recently had one image “Seating for One”, out of four submitted, accepted for the Trierenberg Super Circuit. In the last two decades, the TRIERENBERG SUPER CIRCUIT has attracted hundreds of thousands of pictures from nearly all countries around the world. It is by far the largest annual salon of photography on the globe. A typical year might see one hundred and fifteen thousand entries from one hundred and twelve different countries with only eleven and a half thousand acceptances from all those entries.

It is the aim of this competition to find out the very best photography from different styles, techniques and genres. The TRIERENBERG SUPER CIRCUIT has established as an international benchmark of perfect photography. Not only amateur photographers, but also internationally well known artists and professionals have been participating.

It is the task of an international panel of judges to select the very best entries and to distribute prestigious awards.

The Melbourne Camera Club came in the top ten of successful Clubs this year.

Renee, who has been in Australia for nearly five years, did a Photography Degree in the USA then had ten years in industrial photography. After a break from photography she is getting involved once again.  She has also had an acceptance into Australian Photographic Society’s National Portrait Exhibition and National Exhibition-Digital 2018.

Club members responded to the invitation to submit images into the Golden Cypress Photography community event celebrating the 150 years of settlement of Phillip Island with a wonderful amount of fantastic images that did the Golden Cypress Avenue proud. Prize winners are above.

AWARD FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE

At the recent Victorian Association of Photographic Societies Inc (VAPS) Conference held at Warrnambool, Mark Davy, a member of both Phillip Island Camera Club Inc. and Knox Photographic Society, received a Meritorious Service Award in thanks for his immense contribution to the two Clubs and their local communities.

Mark has been a member of the Phillip Island Camera Club (PICC) for ten years and Knox fifteen years. During that time for PICC he produced and delivered a six week introduction to photography course as well as giving a portraiture workshop, lectured on still life, on Colour Spaces, calibration of monitors, file systems, hyperfocal distance, live-view focusing, photographing to a client’s brief and giving instructions on the use of computers, projectors and software.

Having completed courses in photo evaluation and with intra-club judging experiences, he has been elaborating on judges’ comments as part of his ongoing mentoring of individual members. He has delivered community lectures for CWA, Fellowship group and Phillip Island Rotary Club.

His contribution to PICC administration includes being the electronic digital image competition steward, including delivering their monthly competition images to judges, answering technical questions, representation of PICC at a meeting to establish the inter-Gippsland Annual Competition and exhibited in that competition, hung the exhibition held at Coal Creek, assembles and operates the audio system at PICC meetings, researched the purchase of computer, projector and software and prepared the grant application. He assisted with the preparation for the VAPS Convention on Phillip Island.

Mark’s work has been hung in PICC’s exhibition at Inverloch, in the Artists’ Society of Phillip Island twice yearly exhibition, the Annual Gippsland Interclub competition, the Phillip Island Rotary Garden Show and the Cowes Medical Centre Photographic Display.

Contributions to the local communities include photographing the Cape Patterson Aquathon for the local Surf Life Saving Club to document the event and support their fun-raising, doing so for three years, the Bass Coast Community Players for publicity posters and programs for their theatre production, the National Vietnam Veterans Museum’s collection for insurance purposes and assisted with hanging and judged the photographic images at the World Vision Flower and Photography Show. To the PICC calendar that was sold to stabilize the finances of the club, Mark contributed images and provided the colour management for the printing of the calendar.

Joining in excursions, Mark encourages participation emphasising the opportunities for skill development and integration into the Club. He moves among participants assisting when needed or requested.

Mark Davy is certainly a worthy recipient of the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies Inc Meritorious Service Award.

Ten Year Service Medal

Susan Brereton, current convener of the Phillip Island Camera Club, presenting and congratulating Lyn Young with her ten year service badge, at the July meeting 2017. At the first meeting Lyn attended she took on convener of the Club and continued in that roll for eight years taking the Club on to bigger and better things.

An Excursion to Bimbadeen June 2017

Members recently braved inclement weather to visit Bimbadeen at Ventnor and were hosted by Bob and Anne Davies. Photography opportunities included free range chooks, bird-life, Brahman cattle, old machinery sheds and cabin accommodation. A further excursion will be planned another time hopefully offering more favourable weather conditions for photography.

25th Anniversary Dinner

Members gathered at the Citrus and Vine in Phillip Island Tourist Road, Cowes to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Phillip Island Camera Club inception. Rob McKay founding and life-member gave a history of the formation of the Club, Lyn Young former President, gave a Power Point presentation and Susan Brereton wound up with the happenings since she was elected President.A 25th Anniversary Cake was jointly cut by the three to wind up the evening.
